TRX Suspension Training

What does TRX stand for and what the hell is it? Total Body Resistance EXercise.

Born in the Navy Seals, this Suspension Training Bodyweight exercise develops strength, balance, flexibility and core stability simultaneously. It requires the use of the TRX Suspension Trainer, a highly portable performance training tool that leverages gravity and the user’s body weight to enable hundreds of exercises for every fitness goal.

  • Get a fast, effective total body workout
  • Benefits people of ALLfitness levels (pro athletes to seniors)
  • Can be set-up anywhere (gym, home, road, outside)

I first witnessed the TRX in Australia 3 years ago, some guy was hanging out of it in a gym near Sydney. I didn’t really understand it until I got a few sessions with a professional TRX trainer. Straight after my session I was hooked, I searched everywhere for my first TRX. When I travelled I used the TRX Suspension Trainer everywhere. You can use it anywhere and it works every part of your body. It is now a must in my workout and I bring it everywhere.

I also trained for my certification in San Diego and San Francisco, the home of the TRX where it all began. Taking all those TRX classes I now associate myself as a TRXpert! TRX has really only hit Ireland in the last 3 months so make sure if you are doing a session that the personal trainer is qualified and holds a TRX Cert, not some course he did in 2 hours in the local gym! I have great knowledge and have worked with the TRX for many years now and will be opening a group exercise class very soon…. so watch this space!

  1. […] TRX training is usually next, it can be used for all sorts of resistance training… I lift weights with my arms wide apart to work my back muscles (to avoid the dreaded back cleavage) , I do a tricep extension, I can swing out of it and do squats (my FAV!) and I’m sure there is much more technical ways of describing the possibilities of TRX training but I’ll leave that to the professionals. All I’ll say is – it works! […]
